WHY WE HAVE CLOSED, WHAT'S HAPPENED TO OUR STOCK
AND FUTURE PLANS
Ampersand Books was started
in 1982 by Megan and Michael Dawson to trade exclusively in dimensional
and interactive books - pop-ups, movables and children's novelty books
of all kinds. The business was started in Ilkley, Yorkshire then moved
to Bath. For the last eleven years it was based here in Ludlow where finally
we decided the time had come to shut up shop! Soon we shall be moving
to a much smaller home nearer the two branches of our family and five
grandchildren. During these twenty six years
we accumulated a stock of well over a thousand items. This entire stock
has now been acquired by Stella Books, Monmouth Road, Tintern, Monmouthshire

www.stellabooks.com. Some of the items will no doubt gravitate to Stella's
sister shop: Rose's Books, 14 Broad Street, Hay-on-Wye, Herefordshire
HR3 5DB - telephone: 01497 820013. For the time being we are retaining this site
(minus the selling pages) because it contais pictures and information
that we think may still be of interest to curiosity-seekers, researchers
and collectors. In due course we hope to rename, enlarge and embelish
the site to feature some of the rare and unusual pop-ups and movables
from our own collection - which continues to grow. We therefore remain
on the lookout -though now in a personal capacity -for choice items, especially
those published before 1930. With sincere valedictory appreciation to all
our many former customers, supporters and well-wishers who may recognise
the pictures below of our crowded book-room at Ludford Mill, now sadly
closed and empty.
