The Saturday Book Vol 34
Hutchinson & Co, London, 1975 (out of print)

Contains a short article by lona and Peter Opie (with numerous illustrations in b/w and colour) summarizing the history of pop-ups and movables with examples drawn from their own collection (now in the Bodleian Library Oxford).

 

Movable Books
New English Library, 1979 (out of print) by Peter Haining.  

A lavishly illustrated picture book featuring the pop-up and movable book collection of David and Briar Philips (sadly now disbanded). Most of the examples shown are pre-1940, with full colour plates (some of which open out to display panoramas) accompanied by lengthy captions detailing the book's history.

Comprehensive account of Meggendorfer's life and work as a novelty book illustrator and designer, lavishly illustrated in colour and b/w.

 

The Genius of Lothar Meggendorfer
Jonathan Cape, London, 1985 (out of print) with a foreword by Maurice Sendak and an introduction by Waldo Hunt.  

A movable tribute to Meggendorfer including facsimile reproductions of some of his most famous animations, one of which opens at the rear so that you can see how it works.

Theodore Brown's Magic Pictures

Lavishly illustrated picture book of the author's collection of recent pop-ups (mostly of the 1980s-90s) rather eccentrically categorized. Text in Japanese and English.

This booklet, about the man who started the Daily Express Children's Annuals and then went on to publish Bookano pop-ups, includes three articles that first appeared in the UK journal Antiquarian Book Monthly during 1991/2. The Collectible Children's Curiosities of V Kubašta

Keith Moseley - a Designer's Times

A long interview with one of Britain's most experienced paper-engineers who made his first pop-ups and model books for Bancroft in the 1950s and '60s then went on the work for Intervisual in Los Angeles before helping to start Compass Productions at Long Beach in the 1990s.
